In sixth grade I was given my first camera: a simple Nikon SLR. Since then I have come to love documenting moments in time, whether it be an owner enjoying the company of a beloved pet or capturing a bumblebee mid-flight. None of these moments can be relived, and that’s why photography is such a special, and personal, form of art.
As the daughter of a Naval officer, I’ve had the unique opportunity to live and travel all over the world. My most recent overseas adventure was to New Zealand, where I lived, worked and traveled for 10 months before returning to the gorgeous (and best) state of North Carolina. Other jaunts have included Australia, Wyoming and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but I am currently based in Chicago.
Most of my photography has been wildlife or nature-based, though in college I spent two years as the photography editor for my university newspaper. Much of my present portfolio consists of macro images and those I took during my travels. Now, I’ve chosen to focus on capturing the exuberance of pets, their owners, and the precious interactions between the two.
As far as pets go, I’ve found the natural approach to work best – photographing them in their own environments, be that in or outdoors, or somewhere they feel comfortable. If you are interested in scheduling a session for your pet, please feel free to contact me here and we can get the conversation started!
